NAIDOC Week 2009

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.

The theme this year is Honouring Our Elders, Nurturing Our Youth.

Victorian Native Title Settlement Framework


Native title claims will be settled faster out of court in Victoria in one of the biggest shake-ups to native title since the Mabo judgement. The Brumby Labor Government announced on 4 June it had agreed to a new way of settling native title claims.

The Ricci Marks Aboriginal Young Achiever Award 2009


Some of the next generation of Victorian Indigenous leaders were recognised at the annual Ricci Marks Aboriginal Young Achiever Awards. Aboriginal Affairs Minister Richard Wynne led the accolades at the State Library of Victoria and presented the winners with $5000 bursaries to support their further education and development.
