Leadership

Leadership is vital to ensuring social, cultural and civic participation opportunities are available for all members of the community. Leadership roles within the indigenous community and the wider Victorian community are taken up by individuals and organisations in a variety of ways. As part of its broader commitment to capacity building AAV fosters leadership development, including;

  • Support for current leaders
  • Encouragement and development of emerging leaders, and
  • Fostering and inspiring potential leaders

  • Young people and adults of any age who are already leaders or who may be a potential leader can benefit from specific development opportunities, some of the initiatives supported by AAV include:

    The Indigenous Leadership Network Victoria
    The Victorian Indigenous Youth Advisory Council
    The Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership
    The Ricci Marks Young Aboriginal Achiever Award

    AAV is also working with other State government departments and the Indigenous community to develop a whole-of-government, Leadership and Capacity Building Strategy. The strategy will identify and promote innovative approaches to the development of a co-ordinated range of leadership and capacity building opportunities.
