Aboriginal Heritage Act and Regulations


The Aboriginal Heritage Act commenced operation on the 28 May 2007 and provides effective protection for Aboriginal cultural heritage and broadens Aboriginal community involvement in decision-making.

Aboriginal Heritage Council


The Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Council ensures that Aboriginal people throughout Victoria play a central role in protection and management of their heritage, and that this role is widely acknowledged and respected in the broader community.

Registered Aboriginal Parties


Aboriginal organisations can apply to the Aboriginal Heritage Council to be Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs), with legislated powers to manage and protect their cultural heritage under the Act.

Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Register


The Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Register, which is established under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006, holds details of all known Aboriginal cultural heritage places in Victoria.

Established under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 Cultural Heritage Management Plans protect and manage Aboriginal cultural heritage with the involvement of Registered Aboriginal Parties while allowing development to proceed.
